Student Opportunities
CMP Student Program
The CMP student program is very successful. We take great pride, care and concern for our students. They are the future of our industry and we have a duty to mentor and develop them. It is due to the dedication of the CMP Board, CANMET personnel, and the sponsors that we are able to accomplish a first rate student program.
Student Rate for CMP Conference
The student rate for students is $0. Students can attend the sessions however proceedings and other activities (i.e. banquet) are not included. For these students we ask that delegates not attending the banquet to donate their banquet tickets for these students.
Student Essay Contest
Each year the CMP holds a student essay contest.

In addition to the scholarship, the recipient is invited to attend the CMP conference with travel paid for. The student is recognized at the banquet.
CMP Student AV Program
Each year the CMP brings two students from each university that has a mineral processing program to the CMP conference. Travel accommodation expenses are paid by the CMP. This is done by giving each student a budgeted amount of money based on the travel cost. For students in the relatively near area, the amount is based on bus travel. For longer distances it is based on plane travel. The students assist with the audio visual (AV). The Second Vice Chair is in charge of the student program. There are several key people at CANMET that provide the training for the students.
On Monday evening the students receive their duties and training for the week. After they attend a Student Mixer where they meet other students and members of the CMP board. In the past two years we have also had a speaker from the program give a short presentation to the students. The choice of the person has been based on a topic that is related to the students.
On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the students have a schedule of duties. When not on duty the students gain exposure to the mineral processing industry by attending the conference.
In evenings the students are invited to attend the sessions. On Tuesday night it is the Chairman's reception. This is a great opportunity for the students to network (i.e. future career opportunities). To help the students network, a Scavenger Hunt is held. The scavenger hunt consists of the students being task to talk to people that meet criteria listed out on a sheet of paper. For instance they may have to find someone that has worked in
On Thursday at lunch time there is the student lunch to thank the students for attending and helping out with the conference.
The student program is funded by sponsorship from companies. These companies are recognized and thanked for their contributions by displaying their logos on the conference screen between papers, listing them on the banquet menu, and mentioning them at the banquet.
