CMP 2024 Poster Contest

The annual CMP poster session is back for the 2024 Canadian Mineral Processors (CMP) Conference will be occurring January 23rd-25th 2024 in Ottawa. Posters can touch on all aspects of mineral processing for all commodities, including but not limited to: plant design, start-up and improvement; process optimisation and control; comminution, ore sorting and flotation; gold and precious metals recovery; application of new technologies; and tailings handling and management.

The poster session is geared towards students at the graduate levels, although undergraduate and college student applications are also welcome. The poster session is an opportunity for exchange with industry professionals. Cash prizes will total 1750$.

Typical poster format is 4’x3’ or 3’x4’. Posters will be judged for technical and graphical layout aspects, as well as for the 3-4 minutes presentation in front of the judges.

To ensure your place, please submit a ~200 word abstract to me for consideration before December 15th 2023.

General Information

The 56th Annual Canadian Mineral Processors Conference will be held in Ottawa at the Westin Hotel January 23-25, 2024 in the Confederation Ballrooms (4th Floor).  The conference will feature presentations on various aspects of mineral processing which will include: comminution, flotation, gold and iron ore processing, mineralogy, mill optimization, and process control.

Accommodations

A special rate of $241 (standard/premium) and $291 (deluxe) which includes complementary internet has been negotiated at the Westin Hotel (reference the Canadian Mineral Processors Conference).  The Westin Hotel will only guarantee these rooms until January 8, 2024. Our hotel block is often sold out in early December, so please book your room early to avoid disappointment. Registration

The early registration fee for this year’s meeting is $925 for CIM/AIME/TMS members, and $1,122 for non-members (not including tax). The non-member rate includes a one-year membership with CIM.  Registration includes the three-day meeting, coffee breaks, the Tuesday and Wednesday luncheons and evening social receptions, the Wednesday reception and awards banquet, as well as a copy of the proceedings.  Conference registration and attendance at social events should be indicated when registering on-line.

Delegates can complete their self-registration at the Conference Registration Desk, 4th Floor, Westin Hotel, Monday between 13:00 and 20:00 and during the conference each day between 7:00 to 16:00 (Tuesday and Wednesday), and 7:00 to 12:00 on Thursday.  New registrations will be taken during these times.

NoteEarly registration ends on December 18, 2023; after this date, registration fees will increase. Cancellations received on or before January 12, 2024, are subject to a cancellation fee of 10% on the total purchase price. No cancellations will be accepted after January 12, 2024.

The 56th CMP includes the following social events:

  • Networking Luncheon: Tuesday, January 23 – Noon
  • Chair’s Reception: Tuesday, January 23 – 21:00 to Midnight
  • Annual Business Meeting Luncheon: Wednesday, January 24 – Noon
  • Awards Gala, Pre/Post and VIP Receptions: Wednesday, January 24 – Evening

In addition to the conference’s regular social events, there are several additional events for delegates who like to be physically active:

Six short courses will be offered at CMP 2024.

Monday, January 22

  • Streamlining classification system optimization: Omar Arafat (MetCom Consulting) – $350 (half day)
  • Designing, using, monitoring, and retrofitting metallurgical accounting systems: Luc Lachance (ION) – $600 (full day)
  • Mitigating challenges in sulfide flotation: David Salvatore (Solvay) – $350 (half day)
  • Engineering and layout considerations for tanks in mineral processing plants: Ben Percy (Ausenco) – $350 (half day)
  • Operating SAG circuits: Alex Doll (SAGMilling) – $600 (full day)
  • Mineral lifecycle & discovery; Sample selection to engineering design: Mohamed Shiddo (SGS) – $600 (full day)

All costs include breakfast, lunch, coffee breaks and course materials.  Attendance is limited, please register early.

Authors

Authors, session chairs and regional representatives must register as conference delegates.  A speaker’s breakfast will be provided the day of their presentation at 7:00 tentatively held in the Quebec Room. La 56ème conférence annuelle des Minéralurgistes du Canada se tiendra à Ottawa, à l’Hôtel Westin, Salle de bal Confédération (4ème étage), du 23 au 25 janvier 2024.  La conférence se comportera de présentations traitant de divers aspects minéralurgiques tels que: le broyage, la flottation, le traitement de l’or et du fer, la minéralogie, l’optimisation des usines de traitement, le contrôle de procédés et les opérations minières.

Hébergement

Un nombre limité de chambres a été négocié avec l’Hôtel Westin à un tarif spécial de $241 en occupation simple/double et $291 pour une chambre de luxe.  Veuillez noter que les chambres sont retenues à votre intention jusqu’au 8 janvier, 2024. Le bloc alloué à la conférence ce rempli d’habitude vers le début de décembre, alors s’il-vous-plaît réserver votre chambre dès que possible afin d’éviter tout inconvénient. Inscription

Cette année, le coût de l’inscription anticipée est de $925 pour les membres du ICM/AIME/TMS et de $1,122 pour les non-membres (taxes non incluses).  Le tarif des non-membres comprend un abonnement d’un an à l’ICM. Ces frais donnent droit aux conférences, à une copie des comptes rendus, aux pauses-café, aux dîners et rassemblements sociaux en soirée du mardi et du mercredi ainsi qu’au souper et la réception du mercredi soir.  Votre inscription à la conférence et votre participation aux diverses activités sociales se feront lors de votre inscription en ligne.

Tous les délégués pré-enregistrés pourront recevoir leur trousse d’inscription en se présentant au bureau d’inscription, 4e étage de l’Hôtel Westin, le lundi soir entre 13h00 et 20h00 et chaque jour (mardi et mercredi) de 7h00 à 16h00, ainsi que de 7h00 à 12h00, le jeudi. Les autres délégués qui désirent participer à la conférence pourront également s’inscrire à cet endroit, aux mêmes heures.

À noter: Les inscriptions anticipés doivent être reçues avant le 18 décembre, 2023; après cette date, les frais d’inscription augmenteront. Les annulations reçues au plus tard le 12 janvier, 2024 seront soumises à des frais d’annulation de 10% sur le prix d’achat total. Aucune annulation ne sera acceptée après le 12 janvier, 2024.

56th Annual Canadian Mineral Processors Operators Conference

PAPERS
You are invited to submit an abstract for technical papers to be presented at the 56th Canadian Mineral Processors Operators Conference. We will be considering papers regarding all aspects of mineral processing for all commodities, including plant design, start-up and improvement; process optimisation and control; comminution, ore sorting and flotation; gold and precious metals recovery; application of new technologies; and tailings handling and management.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any additional information. Authors selected will be asked to produce a written manuscript that will be included in the conference proceedings by Oct 16, 2023 and present a 20-minute technical presentation at the conference. Please note the manuscript is not mandatory anymore.

SHORT COURSES
The CMP organizing committee invites proposals for short courses to be presented at the 56th Canadian Mineral Processors Operators Conference. Courses can be offered in either French or English. Topics are welcome from all aspects of the mineral processing field including process design, equipment selection, ore characterization to plant monitoring, performance and optimization.

Nous vous invitons à nous soumettre vos résumés de documents techniques pour les présentations à la 56ème Conférence des Minéralurgistes du Canada. Nous considérerons les articles touchant à tout aspect du traitement de minerai incluant: la conception de procédés, le démarrage et les améliorations, l’optimisation et contrôle de procédés; la comminution, le triage du minerai et la flottation, la récupération de l’or et des métaux précieux; l’application de nouvelles technologies; et la gestion et le traitement des résidus miniers.

N’hésitez pas à me contacter pour toute information supplémentaire. Les auteurs sélectionnés auront jusqu’au 16 octobre 2023 pour soumettre un document écrit qui se retrouvera dans les comptes rendus de la Conférence. Il est à noter que ce document n’est plus mandatoire. Les auteurs se verront allouer 20 minutes pour présenter leur document lors de la conférence.

Join us Wednesday, October 11th for our first ever social event and Thursday, October 12th for the 2023 Annual Meeting of the Canadian Mineral Processors Southern Ontario Branch! The event will take place at the Toronto Steam Whistle. Details on the pre-AGM social get together will be announced closer to the event, but will be downtown Toronto!

The meeting will begin with a networking lunch at noon, followed by presentations covering this year’s theme of technology and innovation. The day will wrap up with drinks, snacks, and a guest speaker.

Want to present at the meeting? We are looking for 20 minute technical presentations with a focus on innovation and projects (no written paper required). This is a great opportunity to exchange technical information and to show the students all the exciting opportunities available in the mining and mineral processing industry. Please contact Manisha Singh (Manisha.Singh@Worley.com) to submit presentations, or any questions related to the presentations. As we get closer to the event an agenda will be provided.
